This was phenomenal. It kind of blew my mind.

I have a problem with dystopian books as I never quite understand things that happen in them. Mostly because everything is so complicated and because English is not my mother tongue. I had the same problem with this book, but, at once, everything fell into place.
I liked the race diversity here. You’ve got to admit, there’s not a lot of books in which the main character is not white. And I think that’s wrong because people with black or any other skin color are as good as white people are, just sayin’ (Authors, please, include more diversity in your novels lol).

The main reason I picked this up was because it had gay elements. I’m a sucker for books in which characters are homosexuals and they are trying to learn how to live like that. Or main character, Syd, doesn’t have much problems about that. Although it doesn’t make him feel extremely comfortable when other people know, he’s not exactly ashamed of it. I like that and this book satisfied my need for a good LGBT book which I was in mood for for some time now.

The whole story of a patron – a rich person who makes a lot of mistakes – and a proxy – a person who is punished for the patron’s mistakes – sounds wonderful! And it all turned out great.

I enjoyed all the characters especially Marie who is just so fierce and ready to fight for what she believes.

I liked the fact that Knox actually started to feel remorse for what had been done to Syd because of him. I even found a quote talking about it which I quite liked:

(Marie and Knox are near the canyon and are talking about proxies; Marie says:) “If people only got what they earned, where would that leave you?”

“I guess it would leave me right where I am,” he said. “This is what I earned.”

All in one, a great book. Since it ended with a cliff-hanger it’s left of me to do nothing other than read the sequel. Looking forward to it!
