Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes . . .
While Jude fought for power in the Court of Elfhame against the cruel Prince Cardan, her sister Taryn began to fall in love with the trickster, Locke.
Half-apology and half-explanation, it turns out that Taryn has some secrets of her own to reveal.
The Lost Sisters is a companion e-novella to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince by master writer Holly Black.
If you couldn’t tell, I just can’t get enough of Cardan and Jude and so I decided to read this one as well.
The Lost Sisters gives us a peek into a mind of one of the most selfish characters ever, Jude’s twin sister Taryn and everything surrounding her big betrayal.
Even though Taryn was always the good and obedient sister, wanting nothing more than to fit into the fae world, I couldn’t help but notice how jealous she actually was. She made me furious when I was reading the books but honestly I’m glad I read this because although it keeps the story 100%, it gives us an insight into Taryn’s life and what was actually going through her head while she was betraying her twin sister.
I don’t think this was supposed to make us sympathize for Taryn and make us like her (which I didn’t and you shouldn’t either because what she did was horrible) and I’m soo glad Holly Black wrote it like this because I hate it when they make up a whole tragic backstory to justify everything a character has done. Taryn was cruel but the truth is she is nothing else than a teenage girl who just wants to fit in and be loved. And she earned that the wrong way.
I loved the connection between those creepy fairy tales and Taryn’s actual life, it just gave the story a whole different twist.
To finish off this quick review, please don’t steal your sister’s man and never make bargains with fae folk. Happy reading!
